In 2024 Sony Entertainment announced Concord, an online multiplayer shooting video game on both Steam and Sony PlayStation.

The reception for Concord was not very welcoming from the fans for multiple reasons.

To begin with, Sony fans are known for their love of storytelling video games, so when Sony announced that they would only be releasing online video games, it didn’t go down well with them. This can be clearly seen by looking at the ratio of likes to dislikes for the official trailer on YouTube.

the game has been under development for more than 8 years costing approximately 200 million for development yet the game did not bring anything new to the table it was just a normal online shooting video game with characters that cannot be described as beautiful, which is kind of bizarre situation since one of the best ways to ensure that fans will buy your game is to include attractive characters, especially if playing these character need the player to unlock them through gameplay which is the case in many of the popular video games such as gension impact and zzz

after releasing, Concorde failed to gain 700 active player on Steam This number could be considered a great success if it was a game done by a small Studio but again this game cost 200,000,000 dollars to develop over 8 years, the game failed to recoup 1% of the development cost.

It also did not help that the game price was $40 while other more established and more polished titles are free to play with microtransactions which did not encourage people to spend money to play.

day after day the game kept losing active player until it suffered to reach 100 player and the matchmaking system was taking up to 5 minutes to let the player enter the game,

and only after 11 days of the release Sony officially shut down the servers, stopped selling the game on all the stores, and refunded the players who purchased the game.

currently the future of the game is not clear, there is a rumour that Sony will try to fix the game to make it an offline game more focused on the storytelling, then releasing it, but that will be a very difficult task since the core mechanics of the game is built for the online competitive fans.

the problem with the Concorde game wasn’t only about the game itself, but also about the many statements that the devs made

for example Amanda Keifer who is a senior artist designer at the game Studio, described people who did not like the game as weirdos after that she ran into a small rant with another Twitter user version people not to criticize the game

according to  Amanda Keifer, many of the artists who worked on the game are fearing for their future with the company and some of them don’t want to create character design for the industry anymore

another developer at the studio described people who criticised the game as talentless freaks

the launch of Concord was a significant misstep for Sony Entertainment, marking one of its most underwhelming releases in recent years. Despite an extensive development period spanning more than eight years and a staggering $200 million investment, the game failed to resonate with fans or stand out in the competitive market of online multiplayer shooters. The lack of innovative gameplay, coupled with uninspiring character design and a steep price point, left fans disappointed, especially when compared to other free-to-play, content-rich titles.
