management’s failure let the bird out

Doki bird is a Canadian Vtuber that joined the Japanese VTuber agency “ NijiSanji ” in May 2021 and she became known as Selen Tatsuki.
Soon after, Selen became extremely popular among fans, especially for playing Apex Legends and for her strong personality, she was very liked by the VTuber community for coordinating events between other VTubers and making music videos on YouTube which is her passion.

Ironically her devotion to her work led to a huge controversy, her last music video with “NijiSanji ”  was published Before Christmas 2023, she spent $15,000 for the production of the video out of her own pocket since the “NijiSanji ” management did not fund this project.

immediately after she published her music video the management decided to private the video since they did not give the permission to Selen Tatsuki  to publish it.

Selen felt betrayed by the company for privating her video on YouTube, specially that she put a lot of efforts and money into this project with no one’s help, as a result she made a tweet on Twitter (now known as X ) telling people to feel free to download and reupload her video because she’s the one who made it.

After the music video incident, Selen went silent on social media for a couple of days only to make a tweet on the 27th of December 2023 explaining that she is at the hospital due to some health issues, and asking her fans to not worry about her.

However, some fans noticed something weird about this post. Unlike all the previous posts this post uses a “Japanese apostrophe”, which is different from the one that Selen Tatsuki usually uses. this made people think that maybe she is not the one who made this announcement

After that the company cancelled all of Selen Tatsuki’s activities and made refunds for her events.
At this point Selen Tatsuki was supposed to be out of the hospital for 2 weeks and no other information was available.

another two weeks passed with no information, making it a full month of silence after she left the hospital, so her fans started being worried and the hashtag #WhereIsSelen became trending on Twitter.
Because of the hashtag the situation became very trending. Everyone was asking why the company did not make any announcement to update about the VTuber health after 1 month of hospitalisation.
and only a few days after the hashtag something wild happened. The company made Selen’s YouTube channel and Twitter account private so no one can see the previous tweets or videos posted. and a huge announcement was made by the company, the announcement of the graduation of Selen Tatsuki, the company did not give specific reasons for the termination.

and on the 5th of February 2024 Selen went back to her old Twitter account named Dokie and she wrote an explanation to the whole situation explaining that when she was at the hospital it was because she tried to commit suicide because of bullying from employees in the company with her, describing the work environment as toxic and poor.

It was also discovered that the previous tweets that were made from the Twitter account after she went to the hospital, were not made by her, the company used her account to make fake announcements, which confirmed the “Japanese apostrophe” Theory that the fans had before.

This announcement made a lot of the company’s fans very mad, and they started asking who are the other employees of the company that harassed Selen Tatsuki, and because of that all the other VTubers of “NijiSanji” lost thousands of followers on all social media platforms.

The situation attracted a lot of attention that the world’s biggest streamers started reporting it, penguinz0 (14.7 million followers ), SomeOrdinaryGamers ( 3.7 million follower) and many other YouTubers made multiple videos about the situation, which draw the attention of big companies that made collaboration with NijiSanji , and this companies started to cancel their collaboration with NijiSanji, one of the biggest companies that terminated the contract with NijiSanji is “ Hyte “ which is a company that make customised computers.

Some artists and game developers also boycotted the company, and said that they don’t give consent for NijiSanji streamers to stream their games or share their art.

On the 7th of February the company made an announcement stating that the financial effect of their decision to terminate Selen Tatsuki is “negligible”. which is a huge understatement and wrong assessment from their side.

Only 2 days after the announcement of the graduation of Selen Tatsuki, the company has lost $22 billion Japanese Yen which is equal to 152 million in Share value. just in 2 days.

On the 14th of March 2024 (yesterday), the company posted their official stock Fiasco report, which explained the financial situation of the Japanese side of NijiSanji and the English side of NijiSanji.

We can clearly see that the revenue of the Japanese NijiSanji grew 22% from last year.
but the revenue of the English side of NijiSanji (where Selen Tatsuki was working), decreased in value by more than 40%.

however it is estimated that the current decrease of Revenue is not related to Selen Tatsuki termination, but due to other mismanagement and Scandals that happened with other VTubers of NijiSanji such as “ pomu rainpuff ” sudden termination that’s broke the heart of fans, and “uki violeta “ continuous racist remarks.

it is speculated that the real effect of the  Selen Tatsuki termination will shows up in the next report in June with further decrease in Revenue.

This story has a happy ending for Dokie Bird who is right now an independent VTuber that is able to make more content for her fans and not be financially stressed since she can gather sponsors for her videos instead of being from her own bucket.

her first stream from her new account docky bird had more than 120,000 viewers at the same time which is a great number for an independent YouTuber
